Keeping up with your children’s health is essential to a healthy upbringing and their development. However, most parents overlook or forget to get their child’s vision checked. Your child should have their vision checked once a year. If your child is having problems seeing, there are usually some signs that there is a problem. Here’s how to tell if your child needs glasses.
1. Squinting
The most common way to see if your child needs glasses is squinting. When your child can not see clearly, they will squint to get a clearer picture. Contrary to what people think, squinting does not harm your eyes, however, it can become tiresome doing so. When a person squints they are increasing their focus by making their pupils smaller.
2.Not Wanting To Use A Certain Eye
Want to know how to tell if your child needs glasses? Another way is if they are covering one of their eyes. When your child closes one eye it helps their brain to focus on the image, making them see clearer.
3. Excessive Screen Time
If your child watch television, use mobile devices, or play video games, they could be putting a strain on their vision. Excessive screen time have a negative effect on your child’s vision. A monitor emits blue light which can cause damage to the light sensitive cells in your child’s eye. This can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness
4.Excessively Rubbing Their Eyes
Another way a child will try to make their vision clearer is rubbing their eyes. Eye rubbing can sometimes give a brief moment of clarity. However excessive eye rubbing can damage the surface of the eye. When the eye is rubbed, it causes micro scratches on the cornea. This can lead to serious eye problems down the line.
5.Inability to Concentrate
Sometimes when your child has a problem with their vision, it might affect how they concentrate especially in school. When your child can’t not see clearly it might make them lose interest in school or other hobbies. Not being able to see clearly can cause frustration. Talk with your child to see if they are having any problems with their vision.
6.Excessive Tearing
Blurred vision can cause excessive tearing in your child’s eyes. If your child is not blinking to increase their focus, it can cause excessive tearing. When eyes are not lubricated, it can cause dry eye leading to inflammation.
