Baby’s Development During Week 16

During week 16 of pregnancy your baby is the size of an avocado. They weigh about 4 ounces and is measuring around 4 1/2 to 5 inches long. This week your baby is making smiles and frowns although these facial gestures are at random. Your baby is already learning how to soothe themselves by sucking on their thumb and putting their fingers in their mouth. Your baby is looking more like a baby, however, they might still look a little weird because they haven’t gained any baby fat yet. Baby’s weight will rapidly pick up later around week 31 of pregnancy. Your baby’s skin is very thin and translucent and will be this way until about week 32 of pregnancy.

What Happens During Week 16 of Pregnancy?

At 16 weeks pregnant you are 4 months along. If people haven’t noticed that you are pregnant by now they definitely will. Your womb is growing at a rapid rate to house your growing baby. That means that your baby bump will be getting bigger and more noticeable. However the size of your baby bump depends on different factors such as height and weight. Your baby bump may look smaller or bigger in comparison to other bumps because of your physique.

With the increase appetite that started last week, you nay notice that you have picked up a few pounds which is perfectly normal in this time of pregnancy. Nevertheless it is important that you maintain a health diet to make sure that you are gaining what you need and not overeating. Also eating a healthy diet can combat constipation which is very common during this time.
