Congratulations! You are having a baby! This will be the most exciting and frightening time of your life.  Before your bundle of joy is delivered, it is important to have everything they will need before their big debut. Babies are extremely expensive and sometimes you may questioned if you will have all the baby necessities you will need to care for your child.

It doesn’t matter if you are having a boy or girl, your newborn is going to need several items. As a mother with two children, I have used every item on this list and highly recommend them. Amazon.com is a great place to shop and compare different products. You will can find helpful items for you and your baby without breaking your budget. Shopping for baby necessities can be overwhelming and expensive. However, preparing now will give you an advantage before your baby’s arrival.

This post is about baby necessities.

1. Clothes

When buying clothes, try not to buy a lot of newborn clothes. By the first month, your baby will gain a few pounds, making those newborn clothes too small. Try buying a few sizes up. This will allow your baby to grow into the close while saving you some money.

2. Diapers

Babies go through 10-12 diapers a day. It is best to buy in bulk. You can also use cloth diapers. There are services that will pick the diapers up, clean them, and deliver them back to your home.

3. Wipes

Just like diapers, buy a lot of wipes. These will come in handy for those unexpected explosions.

4. Bottles

Whether you are breastfeeding or using formula, you will need bottles to feed baby. Choosing the right bottle will help with making sure that your baby’s teething and mouth develop properly.

5. Car Seat

Safety should be one of your top priorities when it comes to your baby. Make sure that you have a new carseat installed when you are leaving the hospital. It is against the law to allow a baby to leave the hospital without a functioning carseat.

6. Bed

For the first year of life, your baby should sleep in your room but not in the same bed. Doing this will decrease the risk of sudden infant death. There shouldn’t be any extra padding or pillows in your baby’s bed. This will decrease the chances of suffocation.

7. Baby Swing

If your arms are tired from rocking your baby all day, invest in a baby swing. There are a variety baby swings that come with different options.

8. Books

Books are a great way to jump start your baby’s development. Reading is a great way for your baby to gain knowledge and develop. It is also a great soothing technique for a fussy baby. Give your baby a warm bath, feed them, and finished off with a book. Your baby will be sleep in not time.

9. Mittens

When your baby is born, they are going to scratch themselves. Because their skin is hypersensitive when they are born, it’s important to prevent your baby from scratching or nicking their skin. A cute pair of mittens or booties should solve this problem.

10. Fingernail Files

When your baby fingernails get too long, it is best to use a filer instead of the clipper. This can prevent you from accidently cutting their fingers.

11. Ear & Nose Aspirator

Your baby will have a lot of boogies in their nose, and they will not be able to blow them out. Have an aspirator handy to make sure they are breathing properly.

12. Pacifiers

Suckling is a way for baby to comfort themselves. Make sure you have more than one pacifier as it will come in handy when your baby is fussy.

13. Baby Wash

Try to stay away from baby wash with a lot of perfumes and dyes. This can irritate your baby’s skin.

14. Moisturizer

Same as with the body wash, keep the scented lotions and moisturizers to a minimum.

15. Comb & Brush

Some babies are born with a few strains while others have a head full of hair. Keep a soft bristle brush and comb handy for when those gorgeous locks begin to grow.

16. White Noise Machine

Have a colic baby? White noise seems to soothe them. This will come in handy when you and your baby are tired and restless.

17. Blankets

Keep your baby warm with a thin blanket. However, they should not sleep with it. Instead, put your baby in a jumper suit for warmth.

18. Nursing Pillow

19. Breast Pump

If your breasts are engorged, or you want to stockpile milk, you will need a breast pump. Through your insurance coverage, you may be able to get one for free.

20. Formula

No matter the reason, if you can’t breast feed, you will need formula. Do not feel less than a mother because your baby is not breastfed.

21. Bottle Brush

This is essential to ensure you get all the old milk out your baby’s bottle. If a bottle is not cleaned properly, it can upset your baby’s stomach.

Having a changing table or portable changing pad can lessen the mess while changing your baby.

23. Baby Detergent

Use a non-scented gentle detergent to wash your baby’s clothes.
